Troop 4: A Tradition of Scouting in Vestavia
Founded in 1957 at Vestavia Hills Methodist Church, Troop 4 has been a part of the community for nearly seven decades. As the first Troop in Vestavia Hills, we’ve grown alongside the church and the city, serving generations of Scouts and families. Today, Troop 4 is home to more than 60 active Scouts.
Service is central to our mission. Each year, our Scouts contribute over 700 hours to the community through Eagle Scout projects and service activities. Notable projects include the outdoor chapel and labyrinth at VHMC, improvements to trails and classrooms at local schools, and enhancements to public spaces throughout the Birmingham area.
We are also proud to have founded the annual Christmas tree lot on US-31, a tradition that now brings together ten Over the Mountain Troops in support of Scouting.
Adventure is where we grow. Troop 4 Scouts take part in monthly camping trips, a weeklong summer camp each June, and annual high adventure experiences at places like Northern Tier, Sea Base, and Philmont.
Troop 4 is led by Committee Chairman Jared Cracraft and Scoutmaster Jeremy Jackson. We invite you to visit a meeting, see our Scouts in action, and learn more about how Troop 4 helps young people grow through adventure, leadership, and service.
